The Southern Cross
Known internationally as a symbol of Australia, the Southern Cross holds a special place with most Australians. And as such inlaying the Cross into the back of one of my guitars, being made solely from Australian timbers seemed a bit of a must.
As the starting position of the Southern Cross changes in the night sky thru the year as the sky revolves around the South Celestial Pole in the Southern Hemisphere. The position of the Southern Cross in December, which is when I built the guitar, points down to the left, as per the position of the inlayed Cross, and the star in the neck represents the South Celestial Pole.
The Southern Cross Guitar represents a new phase in my guitar building style, one of multi layed inlay work and decoration. That being the Full spliced back and neck with Huon Pine, the inlayed centre cross over Diamonds at both top and bottom of the back, and finally the tertiary layer the Southern Cross. The front of the guitar adorned with Pearl inlay right the way thru, adds flashes of colour, that can be individually created to suit the client.
