Sydney Royal Easter Show 2013, Class 257, Musical Instrument Predominately Made in Wood.

I had the Quilted Queensland Maple in my workshop for about two years, cut down and settling, ready to go to be made into something. That was the problem, what was the ‘something’? Look at the timber it is an amazing few sections of Qld Maple. I just had to let it sit there until I had figured out its destiny.

I found myself helping one of my restoration clients move house, long story, but He is one of the biggest Art Deco collectors in the country. Three days of being immersed in a sea of Art Deco. I think I just figured out were that Qld Maple is going.

I had just found my inspiration. An Art Deco guitar, Qld Maple to be matched with Qld Walnut, and what else but Silky Oak to really add the Australian touch... But I wanted more than just that. The posters in the collection grabbed me too. So I added ‘The Batman’ poster to the back of the Guitar and we just found our theme.

Further to this I really wanted to add some authentic flare, so I had to find some Bakelite. Well that took about three months to do. How’s idea was this again? Handles, ferrules, Logo, fret makers both face and edge, nut, saddle and string pins. All one off made out of Bakelite.
